Steven Broomhead to stay on at Warrington Borough Council

COUNCILLORS approved a six-month extension to Professor Steve Broomhead’s temporary contract as interim chief executive of the council.

Mr Broomhead was brought in to take over the reigns when Diana Terris left the position in June.

But the process to appoint a permanent successor means the earliest date of announcing the new chief executive will be December 10.

It means the new chief executive would not be able to start the role until spring 2013.

Mr Broomhead was initially given a six-month contract and councillors voted unanimously to extend it for a further six months in time for the new head to take up the position.

Clr Terry O’Neill, leader of the council, said: “He shares our vision of putting people first.”

Having checked, Diana Terris announced she was leaving in April. Are the council seriously telling us it takes over a year to replace somebody?
