Jail for Latchford man

A VIOLENT boyfriend who stabbed his childhood sweetheart in front of her child has been jailed for eight years.

Lee Jones, aged 22, of Pear Tree Place, Latchford, does not know when he will be released after Judge David Hale passed a sentence for public protection.

He expressed concerns of the danger Jones posed following the brutal attack on April 5 this year during which he stabbed girlfriend Sarah Stanway in the ribs and chest.

Judge Hale said: “You knew as well as anybody the one person you had to be kind to, to look after, was the only person who was fond of you.

“You stabbed her, you threatened to kill her, for no real reason whatsoever. It must have been terrifying for her. There are real dangers inherent in you.”

Warrington Crown Court heard on Friday how Jones had known Ms Stanway since they were young children.

When he was 15 they began a relationship and by the time he was 16 he would slap and shout at her when drunk.

In 2007 Jones was jailed for five years for a section 18 wounding with intent to cause GBH.

The court heard Jones’ relationship with Ms Stanway ended during that prison sentence but on release in 2011 he contacted her once more.

In March this year Jones turned up at her home and they decided to resume their relationship.

Weeks later she was victim to his latest attack.

After drinking nine pints and snorting cocaine Jones punched her in the head shouting ‘I’m not going to stop until I kill you’ while her young daughter was present, the court heard.

The mum-of-two made a ‘hysterical’ 999 call before Jones stabbed her with a kitchen knife.

The court heard she still believes Jones, who has 13 previous convictions will kill her.

He was arrested in April and pleaded guilty to a section 18 wounding with intent to cause GBH on June 19. He will have to undergo analysis before he is eligible for release.
