Warrington Crown Court
A 29-YEAR-OLD who glassed a man in a pub toilet at an office Christmas party has been jailed for four years.
Jamie Prosser, of Trafford Avenue, Bewsey, launched the attack while celebrating with his colleagues from Hall & Kay in Latchford on December 21 last year.
He assaulted Gary Warden, who was a friend of a member of staff joining the party, in the toilets of the Postern Gate, on Barbauld Street, after he believed Mr Warden had been flirting with his girlfriend.
Peter Moss, prosecuting, told Warrington Crown Court on Monday: “He started asking work mates to get Mr Warden into the toilets so he could sort him out.
“He told one ‘I’m being serious, take him into the toilets I want to smash him.’ “One saw the defendant and Mr Warden going towards the toilet, he had his hand on his shoulder and appeared to be ushering him. He saw fists flying as soon as the entered the toilet.”
Inside Prosser had a glass in his hand and hit Mr Warden with it, leaving him with two wounds on his forehead which were bleeding heavily.
Another staff member was there as the attack happened and they helped Mr Warden outside while Prosser was thrown out.
After running off he was arrested on Town Hill when police caught up with him.
Mr Warden needed 10 stitches for his injuries.
Prosser also had two previous convictions for actual bodily harm and common assault.
Simon Berkson, defending, said Prosser was expecting a child with his girlfriend.
He added: “This defendant had a very good job when he entered that pub. His behaviour was significantly out of character as far as his workmates are concerned.
“He regrets what he has done.”
Sentencing him for grevious bodily harm Judge David Hale said: “Once again it started at a Christmas party, I don’t know why people go to them.
“It doesn’t matter if this man became a bit too forward to your girlfriend, you decided to take umbrage about that and you wanted to hit him.
“You have these previous convictions which show you’re capable of losing your temper.”
