Clr Hitesh Patel, Warrington councillor, suspended by Labour Party

AN executive member of Warrington Borough Council has been suspended by the Labour party.

Clr Hitesh Patel, who represents Great Sankey South, was suspended on Thursday and will no longer be able hold official positions within the party - including his role as executive member for personnel and communications.

It is understood he won’t be at tonight’s full council meeting in the Town Hall.

He said: "This is a purely political dispute which will be resolved internally by the Labour party.

“There are serious questions for Helen Jones MP to answer about the conduct and behaviour of her son, Clr Chris Vobe towards democratically elected Labour councillors in Warrington and I expect to be exonerated.

“In the meantime I will continue to work hard to represent the residents of Great Sankey South."

A North West Labour party spokesman said: "Hitesh Patel has been suspended from the Labour party while an investigation takes place.

“It would not be appropriate to comment any further at this point."

A suspension by the party means he can no longer hold official positions within the party, but remains a councillor.

The procedure on what happens now with Clr Patel could take weeks.

It is understood no replacement will be made on the executive board until that process is complete.

How can he continue to represent residents if he has been suspended? Surely all roles are suspended?

I like how he flames up about someone else, when he's the one that's been suspended..

Well done Councillor.. Well done.

I've heard rumours that offending a member of the Bolshevik family in Warrington's Soviet Northern districts is punishable by imprisonment. Cllr Patel should count this as a lucky escape.

You don't get suspended for nothing and by attacking Chris Vobe he is making matters worse. People have a pop at Chris, he is an easy target as the young new Cllr, but as far as I can see, he is doing a great job and works very very hard. Chris is also a lot more approachable & contactable than Keith Bland ever was.

For the man in charge of Communications and an Executive member he sure is making himself look childish! Looks like he knows he's going down and he's trying to drag the source of his envy with him. I wonder what the other members of the Executive think of him? From the quote from the Main Labour councillor given on the other article about this, it seems like he dosen't care, maybe he shares Mr Patels veiws on our MP? This is obviously a big issue as it is in the press.

Why oh why if ""This is a purely political dispute which will be resolved internally by the Labour party." was it necessary to add "“There are serious questions for Helen Jones MP to answer about the conduct and behaviour of her son, Clr Chris Vobe towards democratically elected Labour councillors in Warrington and I expect to be exonerated." ?

It clearly means there's more going on than can be reported! So much for 'open and transparent' politics eh?!?

There's more to this than meets the eye.
The council has become more secretive than the Freemasons.
