Neighbours complain over Creamfields site Neighbours complain over Creamfields site

NEIGHBOURS at the Creamfields festival site have expressed anger over the flooding of roads they say was compounded by thousands of people gathering at Creamfields.

John Helsby, of Chester Road, lives close to a main entrance in Hobb Lane.

He said: “We have water rushing off the field, down the pavement and some of it comes down our drive.

“It has caused horrendous problems.

“The big issue is the water that comes across the road and the vehicles drive through it.

“We have problems with floods anyway, but when there are 55,000 people in one place it compacts the ground it makes it worse.

“It’s a filthy mess.”

John Helsby of Chester Road needs to man up, it's only a bit of water. Can't see any compacted ground on that photo either, quite the opposite in fact.

Just to put it into perspective - 55,000 people caused a bit of water to go down your driveway (apparently). In 2010 over 4 million people were left homeless after the floods in Pakistan. Get a life!!

Excuse me, Casual Postman of Orford, I happen to also live very close to the Creamfields site and I totally agree with davehedgehog. Man up, John, you were young once and knew how to enjoy yourself. I felt really sorry for the whole lot of them in that rain. I listened as the rain poured over my guttering and flooded the front of my house too. Those poor people were in tents! Water on your driveway is not the end of the World. Consider yourself lucky.

The people living near the festival site are already being classed as a load of moaning old sods and a completely over the top letter like this only reinforces this point of view. Mr Helsby certainly hasn’t done his neighbours any favours with this.

Not a fan of Creamfields myself as you've prob guessed but come on a bit of water? Next you'll be saying it's the Creamfields event that made it rain because the heat of everyone together caused clouds to form over there area! Really Guardian you thought this was a story? It's just a moaner who doesn't get a piece of the million pounds it makes from ONE weekend of the year.

John Helsby has my sympathy for feeling unable to cope with the extra water on his drive. Thankfully the residents & Red Cross of Sidmouth, Devon, were far more robust that him, when there was torrential rain during the 1997 Sidmouth International Folk Festival, when they were able to offer emergency accomaodation, camp beds & blankets, for those campers affected by the flooding. Not all Festival goers are young louts, some of us are OAPs & our festival attendees come from all walks of life - the hospital consultant; the head teacher, the lawyer, the particle physicist, the postman, the builder, etc, etc. Although I left Warrington in 1967, I was always proud to be a Warringtonian & a Northener, but poor Mr.Helsby makes me wonder if the inhabitants of the South West have more compassion than "us northeners".
