Orford man jailed for attack on daughter

Warrington Crown Court Warrington Crown Court

A DAD who punched his daughter in the face and threatened to kill her has been jailed for 17 months.

Peter Young, aged 50, of Cannon Road, Liverpool, attacked Claire Young on May 2 this year.

Warrington Crown Court heard on Tuesday how Young went to her home address when drunk before assaulting her in a row over an ongoing police investigation.

He punched her in the face and head, causing her lip to bleed, and then screamed that he would kill her.

Police arrested the alcoholic who denied the attack.

He was released on bail and returned to his daughter’s house the next day when he told her to drop the charges or he would kill her and himself.

Ms Young’s six-year-old son was in an upstairs bedroom frightened by the threats, the court heard.

The defendant, who has 36 previous convictions for 48 offences, was arrested once more and again denied any attack He later pleaded guilty to common assault and witness intimidation.

His latest offence violated two suspended sentences enforced last year.

Young was arrested in March 2011 for selling cannabis and amphetamines in Grasmere Avenue, Orford.

He was caught by officers with small amounts of the drug he was supplying to on a minor scale, the court heard.

Young was convicted for possession with intent to supply class B and C drugs and was given a nine month sentence, suspended for two years.

And later that year police were called to Bridgefoot after the defendant made a drunk 999 call threatening to kill himself by jumping off the bridge.

Defending, Michael Davies said Young had battled problems with alcohol for 15 years.

Judge David Hale sentenced him to three months in prison for common assault and six months for witness intimidation to run concurrently.

He will also serve an additonal eight months for the breach of two suspended sentences.

Judge Hale said: “It’s up to you to decide what to do with the rest of our life - swill it or live it.”
