Shoppers flock to farmers market in Warrington

SHOPPERS from as far as Devon flocked to Warrington for its annual farmers market.

The event, organised by Warrington Market, proved highly popular with more than 60 stall holders who met the strict criteria for a farmers market taking part.

All produce on sale was brewed, pickled, processed, grown or crafted within a 30 mile radius of the town centre.

Several of the traders have permanent stalls inside the indoor market and are available six days a week.

Footfall for the town centre saw a dramatic increase for the one day event, with the number of people visiting the indoor market almost double that of the previous Saturday.

Clr Mike Hannon, deputy leader of the council, said: “Many people are passionate about our town centre and it is great to see the streets packed with so many smiling faces. “ This is a great way of showcasing what is already on offer in the indoor market with lots of fresh local produce on sale all year round.

It’s all going on in Warrington and this is just one of many popular events taking place in the town.”

The next town centre event is a medieval market and antiques fair on Saturday celebrating the history of Warrington Market since its creation in 1255.

An excellent event - should consider doing to more often. We really enjoyed it and were very pleased with the quality of the products we purchased there.

Didn't even know it was on and can't remember seeing it advertised anywhere. We don't go into Warrington that much unless we have to but would have liked to go to that. Next year maybe :)

I would personally do as much of my food shopping as possible from a farmers market... Can this not be a regular event??
