Laura’s lucky tutu helps bring cup home

WHETHER a superstitious routine, lucky item of clothing or even favourite mascot, Warrington Wolves fans were doing everything in their power to make sure of a win on Saturday.

Around 23,000 travelled to Wembley for the Challenge Cup Final.

And while they roared their heroes home to a comfortable victory, it was as much a day for the fans as the players.

For the third time in four years Wembley Way (now named Olympic Way) became Warrington Way with flags, scarves and banners creating a carnival atmosphere in the hours before kick-off.

And for many it was a case of keeping the same routines which ensured victory in 2009 and 2010.

Sarah and Simon Hughes, from Padgate, were on Olympic Way.

Sarah said: “We always come to the same place to do the same thing with our face painting.”

For Laura Park, from Great Sankey, it was a lucky tutu which was being sported for the third time.

And she had a sock monkey, made from Lee Briers ’ old socks, as her mascot for the day.

The 26-year-old said: “It is from the Warrington Wolves Charitable Foundation to raise money.

“Whenever he has been to a game we have won so I was always going to bring him today.”
