IT has been a busy week of preparations in the Morley, Wood and Higham households this week as wives, girlfriends and children prepare in their own way for the Challenge Cup Final.
And it seems it is not only the players who have superstitions before big games as Adrian Morley ’s partner of nine years Clare Richards poses for us in her lucky jumpsuit from the final in 2010 and Paul and Shelley Wood’s four-year-old son George will be wearing his lucky underpants, which he has had since he was aged two to three.
The Warrington Guardian caught up with three of the Warrington Wolves WAGs before they head to Wembley.
n SHELLEY WOOD MUM-of-two Shelley, who also has a one-year-old daughter Darcey, has been married to Paul for four years and said everyone at home was really excited about the final.
The 29-year-old, who is training to be a water babies instructor and lives with her family in Wigan, added: “We have got a Warrington Wolves flag in our window to wind our neighbours up!
“All of the family are from Wigan and support them but they all want Paul to do well too.
“George came with us to Wembley last time so he can’t wait but he’s just as excited about getting the train to London.
“Darcey was conceived after Wembley last time so perhaps I will have to get a separate room from him if they win this year!”
n CLARE RICHARDS CAPTAIN Adrian Morley’s partner Clare Richards, aged 34, said the night before the final is like a ‘big sleepover’ for players’ families.
The pair have two children Leo, aged five, and Maya, aged two, and have been together nine years.
Clare, who trained as a teaching assistant, said: “It’s nice getting ready together the morning before the final and we all help each other out.
“Shelley is great with make up and eyelashes so I go to her.
“We tend to take it in turns watching the kids so one will be drying her hair while the other watches! Kids and high heels don’t mix so we always have trouble deciding what to wear.
“Maya has been really excited about the final and singing ‘Wembley, Wembley’.”
n KATE HIGHAM KATE Higham, who has been married to hooker Micky for the past eight years, said she still has not decided what to wear on the big day.
The 33-year-old, who has two children with Micky, Harry, aged seven, and Alex, aged two, said: “It goes on for weeks deciding what to wear and we all end up buying about five dresses before we can decide.
“It’s not got any easier even though we have done it twice before.
“I was pregnant for the first final in 2009 but this time both of the kids are coming and they love playing with the other kids.
“We had a great party after the final in 2010 and met Gary Barlow, Kasabian and some of The Script so hopefully it will be the same again this year.”
