Warren Kelly and Dave Fairbrother launch the £1 fare
THE gauntlet has been thrown down in public bus transport with Fairbrothers launching a new cheap fare.
Residents can now travel from Orford, Longford, Latchford, Dallam and Westy to the town centre bus station for a £1 single fare.
The Pound2Town initiative will see buses run every 15 minutes throughout the day from Monday to Saturday.
Warren Kelly, operations manager for Fairbrothers, said: “What we are trying to do is offer this public service at a public price.
“We are reaching out to the people who don’t have a car and need to get to town and back with their kids.
“We are a local company and are just having a go to save people money.”
Mr Kelly said Fairbrothers is not trying to undermine services offered by Network Warrington.
“We work closely with other bus companies, and this is not about being dog eat dog,” he added.
