UNROMANTIC types at Risley prison have only celebrated one wedding in the last five years.

A Warrington Guardian freedom of information request found there had been no civil partnerships at the jail between 2007 and 2011 and only one wedding in 2011.

A prison spokesman said: "Prisoners are entitled to apply to be married in prison under the Marriages Act 1983, so long as certain criteria are met.

“For instance the prisoner is not on remand or about to be released.”
