Rugby player hands over 20k cheque

A RUGBY player recovering from a broken neck has handed over a cheque for £20,000 to charities that help injured players.

Alex Bennett organised the England Legends match at Lymm RFC in thanks for those who have supported him since his horrific injury.

He said: “It was a very proud day for everybody involved.

“Each of you played an important part in that day and its success.

“Thanks to your time and efforts I am delighted to hand over what I hope will be the first of many cheques to the RPA Benevolent Fund and the RFU Injured Players Foundation - two organisations that have provided me and my family with huge support since February this year.

“Please accept with my thanks, and a promise of my ongoing commitment to raising much more money for these charities, an initial donation of £20,000 to be shared between the two causes.”

‘Bosch’ is due to be discharged from the spinal unit at Southport Hospital today.

He will continue in his bid to move indepedently at his home on Millbank, Lymm.

The 37-year-old is continuing to raise money through an online auction with top prizes including a coaching session with England head coach Stuart Lancaster.
