Wolves training among loan shark warning week events

A WEEK of events to help warn people about the dangers of loan sharks starts on Monday.

The England Illegal Money Lending Team, national affordable housing provider Affinity Sutton Housing and Warrington Borough Council’s public protection team will be warning local people to turn away from illegal money lenders and encouraging anyone who has fallen into a loan sharks trap to speak out.

The team’s mascot ‘Sid’ the Shark will be out and about at events including rugby training with the Warrington Wolves on Monday, a roller disco on Tuesday, zumba on Wednesday and a treasure hunt and salsa session on Friday.

There are also sessions where you can find out more about spotting loan sharks and where to turn if loan sharks are operating.

These sessions will be held at Fearnhead Community Centre throughout the week.

Clr David Keane (LAB - Penketh and Cuerdley), executive board member for environment and public protection, said: "Loan sharks prey on the vulnerable that have been reduced, often through no fault of their own, to accepting a short term solution which quickly turns into a long term nightmare.

"It is time that the community started helping each other and fighting this growing problem together. That is what this new campaign is about."
