Oarsome teams raise thousands for St Rocco's Hospice

The Rocco's Rowers go all out in the competition
THE eyes of the nation may have been on the oarsome display from Great Britain at Eton Dorney.
But Warrington Rowing Club was the place attracting attention for a different reason all together as 15 teams took to the water, paddle in hand, to compete in the St Rocco’s Hospice Dragon Boat Race.
Competitors were inspired by the heroic rowing performances from the likes of Warrington’s own Ric Egington as they took to the water in the traditional Chinese crafts last Sunday.
The race was the closest in St Rocco’s dragon boat history.
Defending champions The A-Team, made up of Warrington Borough Council workers, was once again victorious. ABD Consulting’s Puff and the Magic Dragons came in second while Slimloaders, also a council team, picked up third spot.
Helen Latham, events fundraiser, said: “The Dragon Boat Race is such a vibrant and exciting day, we are so grateful to Assura and all of our wonderful teams who have taken part today. The race has been getting better and better each year. We have already raised over £10,000 and the sponsorship is still coming in.”

I quite agree with MikeJT about the riverside road down to the rowing club needing attention: It is an absolute disgrace and has been for years. It's about time work was done on it to give the town and the River Mersey some pride! Also the Rowing Club who are brilliant!!
