JAILED FOR LIFE FOR MURDERING SHAFILEA
2:39pm Friday 3rd August 2012 in News
JAILED FOR LIFE
FARZANA and Iftikhar Ahmed have been jailed for life and ordered to serve a minimum of 25 years for the murder of their daughter Shafilea.
They were found guilty of killing the teenager by a unanimous verdict at Chester Crown Court on Friday.
Mr Justice Roderick Evans said Shafilea had been 'squeezed' between two cultures.
He told the defendants: "You chose to bring up your family in Warrington but although you lived in Warrington, your social and cultural attitudes were those of rural Pakistan and it was those you imposed on your children.
"You wanted your children to live in Pakistan in Warrington.
"Your problem was that in what you referred to as your community, Shafilea's conduct was bringing shame upon you and your concern about being shamed in your community was greater than the love of your child.
"In order to rid yourselves of that problem, you killed Shafilea by suffocating her in the presence of your four children."

At last,a judge with a bit of sense when it comes to fitting the sentence to the crime. With a bit of luck they'll both die behind bars ;o/
To put religion...ANY religion before your own precious child is anathema to me and sickening crimes like this make me proud to be an Atheist.

and you "mother" what kind of mother are you. you let that animal of a husband of yours suffocate your daughter to death in front of your other children. You dont deserve children. There is a saying in England ..." What comes around goes around" and yours has just spun round and smacked the pair of you in the face and thats just the begining of your comuppances, i hope are subjected to lives of hell in jail.

I also hope they now lose the house, cos they won't be paying the mortgage from cell block H.
He certainly won't be so smug when those gates shut every night for 25 years. It brings a smile to my face to think of it.

A religion that deemed it more acceptable to murder their own child rather than live with the 'shame' that her insistence on living a Westernised life brought on them....

g in the Pakistani culture does not equal the Islamic religion.
If you want to know what the religion says about this kind of case, I suggest you read the whole Quran with meaning. Just by calling yourself a Muslim does not mean every action of yours is in accordance with the religion.

It appears that you have very little knowledge of the world of Islam and are basing your observations on snippets of the misinformation that is often bandied about, I doubt you have ever touched the Qur'an let alone read it.

I believe that I read that the Ahmeds are muslim but they did not act in accordance with the teachings of the Qur'an in anyway when they murdered their beautiful daughter.
First of all Allah said that nobody but he shall take a life (although he did say it was right to kill another to save himself if there is an immediate danger that the other person is about to kill him but if that other person ends his intent to kill him then he must turn away from him and not kill him). Nowhere in the Qur'an does it advocate forced marriage and nowhere does it say that parents should kill their offspring if they refuse to marry whoever they choose for them. So called honour killings are a cultural issue not a religious issue.
