PARENTS FOUND GUILTY OF MURDERING SHAFILEA AHMED

Farzana and Iftikhar Ahmed Farzana and Iftikhar Ahmed

AFTER almost nine years of lies, deception and deceit the parents of Shafilea Ahmed have been found guilty of her murder.

Today, Friday, at Chester Crown Court Iftikhar Ahmed, aged 52, and Farzana Ahmed, aged 49, were convicted unanimously by a jury of five woman and seven men of killing the 17-year-old after an 11-week trial.

Shafilea was murdered in the lounge of her family home on Liverpool Road, Great Sankey on September 11, 2003, because she was determined to lead a Western lifestyle.

Her body was then driven to the Lake District and dumped in a gorge next to the River Kent, Sedgwick.

Both Iftikhar and Farzana Ahmed have always denied killing the former Great Sankey High School pupil.

They claimed she ran away from home on the night she was murdered.

However, they did not report her missing.

Joanne Code, a teacher at Great Sankey High School, notified police that Shafilea had disappeared.

The former Priestley College student’s decomposed remains were found five months later in February 2004.

But the lies of the two defendants were uncovered after daughter Alesha Ahmed staged an armed robbery at the family home in August 2010, for which she was arrested.

The 23-year-old, who is currently in witness protection, gave evidence to say she witnessed her parents kill Shafilea and that her siblings were also present.

During the trial letters written in 2008 by Shafilea’s younger sister Mevish were read out.

In them she also described witnessing the murder.

She also talked of how Mr and Mrs Ahmed had regularly beaten and abused Shafilea for talking to boys.

But when the 21-year-old was called to give evidence by Mr Justice Roderick Evans, she claimed they were fictional stories she had made up.

Iftikhar Ahmed has been found guilty of the 'honour killing' of daughter Shafilea Ahmed

Proceedings then took a dramatic twist on July 9 when Mrs Ahmed changed her statement, blaming her husband for the murder.

Today the jury convicted both parents for the teenager’s death.

Well let's hope that these two heartless, soul-less excuses for parents are given appropriate sentences that will see them locked away from sight for many, many years without any chance of parole or early release.
Preferably they would die in prison but if not then soon after release as aged, old, worn out things

You know what? In their twisted moral universe they'll STILL be thinking they did the right thing. No doubt they will feel a grave injustice has been done and quite indignant about how poorly they believe they've been treated. Sadly even after they serve their no-doubt so-called 'life' sentence (ha!) they'll feel no shame and rather than exiled and renounced by their community I suspect there'll be some unspoken acknowledgement that they 'did the right thing' (at least by some at any rate). A terrible, evil act.

That is a very restrained version of what I would have (if allowed) written.

Let's be quite clear about this. There is no such thing as an honour killing. It is murder and there is no honour in that!!

RIP Shafilea

Premeditated murder like this warrants the death penalty. What's it going to cost to keep these two in a life of luxury for many years to come.

We were living in Warrington when this young girl went missing and we have followed this court case ever since, we are pleased that this was a unaminous verdict as it was clear from the evidence that both parents were involved in the murder of their daughter, may the life sentence that will surely follow mean exactly that and that there is no minimum time attached.

Indeed. 'Honour' crime is the sugar coated term invented for institutionalised domestic violence within certain communities, up to and including murder.
This issue must be faced and dealt with, it can't carry on in a civilised country.

Sicko's thats what these two are.
The only real justice for Shafilea would be to put these two twisted sicko's at the end of a rope.

RIP Shafilea.

Finally justice has been served. Congratulations to the police force who have worked tirelessly to bring these two to justice. Just a **** shame her sister is in witness protection for standing up for what she believed in.

What a shame it took so long to get justice for poor Shafilea :(
All these years these two have been living their lives as they chose, thinking probably that they had got away with it, although, as another reader suggested, they probably do not see that they have done wrong.
Lets hope that the British Justice system get's the sentencing right in this instance !!
