i hope both ladies are ok. i don't know whether the police come out with these statements to reassure people, but we watch the tv and read the papers and they tell a different story.

Very sorry for the lady but come on. How many times are women told to not walk alone at night and stay in well lit populated areas. my Mrs can't believe this still happens, she would NEVER walk alone in the dark let alone after a few drinks.
I hope they catch the perv and pray they don't use the justice used for the Plaque thieves.

im also very sorry for her but, when are women told not to go out alone at night and stay in. 11:15pm is not that late for someone to be out, she could do that route quite often, it shouldnt be about women fearing to go out anytime, they shouldnt need to look over their shoulder

While I agree that is in everyones (male and female) best interests to make sure that they are as safe as possible when walking around town ie not totally incapacitated by drugs or alcohol, I do not agree that women should have a curfew placed upon them because some men cannot control their urges! Men get attacked too! We should all be aware of our surroundings and not take needless risks but we should not become prisoners because of our fears and surrender the streets to the thugs!

Women shouldn't have to be carefull about where they walk alone of a night but unfortunately they do. I'm a male and even i wouldn't walk across the bricky of a night because it's totally unlit and only over looked by a few bungalows that are most likely occupied by elderly or disabled residents who more likely will be asleep. It doesn't even save that much time walking across there you can either carry on down Orford Lane and walk up the next lit and overlooked by house's on both side of the road or walk up Winwick Road. It'd prob take no more than 5 minute's longer to reach their destination. I just hope both male's and female's learn from these unfortunate events and either walk in at least pairs or if they are on their own preferably not using all their money on ale and instead saving £7 for a taxi and if they don't think getting a taxi is important or lost their money to stick to well lit roads instead of unlit roads and specially recreation ground and stay aware of their surroundings

FFS! When did I say curfew? It was'nt even implied. Read it again.
Society is broken, it just aint safe late at night. Is it worth assault or worse to recklessly put yourself in danger to be able to say "I'm not giving the streets up to the thugs!"
Everytime a sexual assault is reported on TV news a police spokesperson warns women not to walk home alone, rwarby. More so around the festive season.

It's called common sense, people shouldn't be afraid to go out when it's dark but there are bad people about that prey on single women and men and there always will be so it's a case of being wise instead of making themselve's victims. Putting out comments that "it's not that late" or "she probably walks that route all the time" isn't helping anyone really is it. The only sensible thing that people can comment on regarding this article is that women and men need to use some common sense whether they know the area or not

Nobody has blamed drink or drugs for what happened? Are you reading the same comments that you've quoted? The only mention of drink that was made was it's as specially dangerous after having a few drinks with friends. Or people should save some money for a taxi home if they've been in town drinking. Nowhere does it say that she'd been drinking or taking drugs. It's actually safety advice should people go out drinking and placing themselves in an even more vunrable position it's best to get a taxi or stick to well lit streets not unlit rec land. If you think that's bad advise please tell us which parts that people should do? Maybe they should walk down unlit alley way's? It's quite unbelievable that someone is attempting to pick apart advise that the public have jointly put together on how lone females and males should keep themselves safe of a night whether they've had drinks or even drugs (though nowhere has anybody mentioned the later so it maybe you that's been taking drugs to think you've seen somebody comment about people being twisted and walking home)
Personally i think the advice given by the previous people were very good and i also added my own. However i didn't notice any safety advice given in your comment just accusations people said they young lady HAD been drinking or HAD been taking drugs. To be honest it doesn't even matter if she had in my eyes still doesn't mean she deserved to be sexually assaulted really does it?
