3:30pm Wednesday 1st August 2012 in News
POLICE are appealing for help after a sexual assault in Orford.
At around 11.15pm on Thursday, July 26m a 46-year-old woman was walking home through Brickfield Park in Clegge Street after an evening with friends.
She was approached by an unknown man and sexually assaulted.
The victim went home and the incident was later reported to police.
Inspector Debbie Dodd, of Cheshire Police′s Dedicated Rape Unit, said: "The victim is currently receiving help and support from specialist officers.
"We are following up a number of lines of enquiry in a bid to trace the offender. These enquiries include forensic enquiries, house-to-house enquiries and CCTV enquiries.
"We are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or was in the area at the time and has seen anything significant or anyone acting suspiciously to contact us.
"Thankfully incidents of this nature are rare, although I would urge people to remain vigilant when walking alone at night and maintain an awareness of your surroundings."
The man is described as white, of stocky build and was wearing a grey tracksuit top.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1218 of July 26 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Very sorry for the lady but come on. How many times are women told to not walk alone at night and stay in well lit populated areas. my Mrs can't believe this still happens, she would NEVER walk alone in the dark let alone after a few drinks. I hope they catch the perv and pray they don't use the justice used for the Plaque thieves.

Society is broken, it just aint safe late at night. Is it worth assault or worse to recklessly put yourself in danger to be able to say "I'm not giving the streets up to the thugs!"
Everytime a sexual assault is reported on TV news a police spokesperson warns women not to walk home alone, rwarby. More so around the festive season.

Putting out comments that "it's not that late" or "she probably walks that route all the time" isn't helping anyone really is it. The only sensible thing that people can comment on regarding this article is that women and men need to use some common sense whether they know the area or not

Personally i think the advice given by the previous people were very good and i also added my own. However i didn't notice any safety advice given in your comment just accusations people said they young lady HAD been drinking or HAD been taking drugs. To be honest it doesn't even matter if she had in my eyes still doesn't mean she deserved to be sexually assaulted really does it?

i hope both ladies are ok. i don't know whether the police come out with these statements to reassure people, but we watch the tv and read the papers and they tell a different story.
