WARRINGTON'S David Hunter has been voted off ITV's Superstar tonight.

The 27-year-old was one of four left in the competition to find a leading man for the forthcoming arena tour of Jesus Christ Superstar before this evening's show.

He received high praise from the judges after singing Macy Gray's I Try. 

Andrew Lloyd Webber said if he was producing Sunset Boulevard he would cast him as his leading man tomorrow, and added: "You are the great actor-singer that the West End needs."

But following a public vote, David faced being in the bottom two for the second time and after singing Boyzone's No Matter What in the final showdown, Andrew decided to save Wirral semi-finalist Rory instead.

Speaking after being voted off, he said: "It has been an amaxing experience. I wish it had been that little bit longer but I've had a proper giggle."

The former Bridgewater High School pupil spoke to the Warrington Guardian earlier today as he was about to go on stage for a dress rehearsal.

He said: “I'm overwhelmed by the response I've had. 

“Thank you to every last one of you who has voted and spread the word.

“You've made me very proud to say I'm a Warrington lad through and through! Thank you.”

Shocking! Is this a fix? In my opinion, even though Rory's take on Phil Collins' In the Air Tonight was amazing, when it came to the sing off, David acted and sang him off the stage! We have not seen any where near the acting ability from Rory as David has shown throughout that he is the ultimate all round show man. Oh and a biggy, wasn't Ben completely out of out tune in the falsetto in his Snow Patrol cover , and there was no mention of this! Hmmm!? David definitely should of won, I shall just have to wait for Sunset Boulevard! :)

you think ALW cares who you all spend your money on to win? thats why these programes are never down to the public vote propoerly, its always the 'last two' and then a judge pics who they want...how is that a public vote?!?!?

If you phone or text vote any shows like thie, xfactor etc you are in fact (and evidenced based) a fool!!

I agree with Maddy92. David did as Andrew Lloyd Webber requested night after night by interpreting every word of every song he performed, he's the best actor/singer by far on the show. I thought the judges were supposed to be impartial but by claiming Ben as their favourite from the start made it impossible for anyone else. What a feeble excuse by ALW to say that Rory was more of a rocker & that's why he chose him over David, no good if he can't act! Not heard much rock from Ben though. I believe David was a threat so that's why he was voted off. Good luck David, I'm sure you'll go on to bigger & better things.
