HE may have seen a lot in a Wolves shirt but Paul Wood hopes the outcome of this weekend’s Challenge Cup semi finals can deliver him the ultimate – a Warrington v Wigan final.

The prop has been with Wolves through ups and downs for more than a decade but was born in Wigan and still lives in the town.

He believes the ‘ultimate’ game would happen if Wolves beat Huddersfield and Wigan overcome Leeds on Saturday.

“At the 2009 final I was asked what could be better next year (Wood missed the game through injury).

“And I said playing and beating Wigan at Wembley would be absolutely fantastic.”

First up though is the ‘massive’ job of defeating Giants on Sunday.

And the 30-year-old believes that getting the better of Nathan Brown’s men is not simply about stopping an Eorl Crabtree-inspired pack.

“They are a very competitive team and we will have to be on our game.

“They can be a little like ourselves. They like the pack to get on top and they have got a lot of players who can play rugby like Kevin Brown, Scott Grix and Danny Brough.”

And he believes Wolves will prepare themselves for this game like any other – although with some changes in technique – especially facing man mountain Crabtree.

“You prepare just the same but when you think about big guys you will adjust your tackle tech-nique.

“But we have shown over the past few years, if we have been on our game, we have played well against Huddersfield.”

And training will be intense this week as the squad battles to be in the 17 for the clash in a season which has seen chopping and changing of the team from week to week.

“I am sure Tony Smith will pick his strongest team. I feel confident in my own ability and what I can do in my play,” he added.
