Many happy returns for Disability Awareness Day
8:10am Saturday 14th July 2012 in News
DISABILITY Awareness Day comes of age this weekend with the 21st edition.
Staged at Walton Hall on Sunday, it is the biggest event of its type in Europe with a packed line up of events prepared for the day.
Dave Thompson runs the show and says the poor weather has made for unusual conditions under foot.
He said: “The conditions are far worse than expected but we will do everything we can to ensure that all events go ahead as planned.
“Anyone attending should consider wearing footwear suitable for muddy and slippery conditions.”
Your Housing Group is sponsoring this year’s event and subsequent editions – ending any uncertainty over the future.
This year’s sports zone will be dedicated to Dave Connor, a supporter of Warrington Disability Partnership, who died last month.
Included will be a climbing wall, wheelchair basketball, rowing, archery, beat the goalie, scuba diving and more.
Carly & Martin from BBC 3’s Autistic Superstars, the Batala Samba Band, ELLA Performance group, Wired for Sound – Warrington’s community choir – will all perform in the arts marquee.
