Runcorn soldier charged with rape in Warrington town centre

A SOLDIER has appeared in court charged with a rape in Warrington town centre.

Jason Holmes, aged 21, of Lockgate East, Windmill Hill, Runcorn, attended a preliminary hearing at Warrington Crown Court on Monday.

He was arrested in Cairo Street in Warrington town centre in the early hours of Christmas Eve last year.

The case was adjourned until August 31 for plea.

Holmes, who serves with the Royal Engineers, was released on bail.

A provisional trial date has been set for October 1.
