Table tennis star carries the torch

A PARALYMPIC hopeful proudly carried the Olympic torch through Horwich.

Andrew Harper, who attends Warrington Table Tennis Club, completed the run earlier this month.

Born with cerebral palsy, he is now a member of the development squad for GB for the Paralympics in table tennis.

The 20-year-old, who lives in Newton-le-Willows, was bullied at school but achieved the required the GCSEs and A-levels he needed to get into Manchester University to study mathematics.

Karen Tonge, from the club, said: “Andrew always gives 100 per cent and to be part of this fantastic event is a well deserved reward.”
