Stuart’s 14.5-mile alternative torch relay

A GREAT Sankey man helped take an alternative charity torch relay through the town centre.

Stuart Holden, of Ellington Drive, is one of the many runners taking part in the Endurancelife Real Relay which is following the Olympic torch route with volunteers running every step of the way.

The experienced runner covered 14.5 miles from the Golden Gates to Wigan town centre before passing it on.

The event is raising money for CHICKS which provides respite care for sick children.

Stuart said: “This event was a great chance to get involved with the Olympics.

“It felt good knowing that hundreds of people before me had carried the baton and will be doing the same after.”

The relay route is being tracked live with a GPS system in the baton.
