POLICE have been called to an armed robbery in Stockton Heath village.

They were called around 5.20pm tonight, Friday, to reports of an attempted raid at the NatWest bank on London Road.

Officers are currently at the scene and enquiries are continuing, they say.

Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 762 of June 1 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

They should have caught them! The Police station in Stockton Heath is directly opposite. The thieves most of been dim if they robbed a bank right near a Police station. Just shows that no where is safe.

Or maybe all the officers were out of the station dealing with other incidents when it happened?

Or maybe they gained entry via the back as to not be in view of the station?

I was sat outside the Lion having a quiet pint with friends, most of us either had the phone on video mode or camera, if the police would like to have a look, they can get in touch on here, as not one came over to get a statement, too embarrassed at the response time I suppose.

it takes a while to get the speed cameras back into the car you know . and then get to the scene of real crime.

Its people like you who make society what it is now.

If you have evidence of this why don't you go to the police. If nothing else do it for the victims of this.

Do you not think that the police had other things to do at the time. There's not an infinite number of them.

Let's hope your never the victim of crime and the witnesses have your attitude. Your a disgrace.

Old-Codger, unfortunately alarms are not wired to the police & haven't been for many years. They will go through to a central alarm monitoring company who will then contact the police control room who then deploy officers via their radios. Not perfect but that's the system.

Totally agree with the comment that if you feel you have any evidence on your phone then it's your public duty to take it to the police to assist rather than make smart arse comments on here. I take it you didn't feel brave enough to step in & help?

'reception officer'!!!! Don't make me laugh. Due to cuts in the budgets the police station closes to the public at 5pm. You've obviously never tried to produce your documents there after 5 or on a weekday.

Don't worry though because the government will ensure that there will be no police stations at all outside the central one as they are closing them to sell off.

But it's ok because there won't be any bobbies to work in them as I read an article on this very website about 16,000 officers getting axed.

Where were the community support officers at the time? They are the ones who give out the speeding tickets now not the police. And parking tickets.

Define 'petty crime'?

I'm sure if you were the victim of one of these 'petty crimes' you would be banging on about it and wanting the police to do something.

Or if your kid got knocked down by a speeding driver, how would you feel then?

If my house was 'robbed' the police would come out.

You are both posting opinion based on no fact or evidence.

Perhaps you need to go and visit your local police station and peak to them to get an understanding of what happens. Then come back when you've got an informed opinion rather than just spouting rubbish in here.

Plus I was asking Annie to define petty crime since she brought it up. Your examples are not crimes (even by your own admission) so cannot be classed as petty crimes.

They are by the police hence the attitude towards what happened, Cheshire police are a prime example of whats wrong with the police in this country. They dont investigate, They take statements and pass them on to the CPS. Then someone has to make a good script out of it for the courts. Thats why conviction rates are right down.

Managers at Tesco tell me the police wont prosecute shop lifters if the stolen goods amount to less than £100.00. One shoplifter has been arrested over 80 times in the Tesco store on winwick road and still not been to court.

Bring back the bobby on the beat, get out in the real world and tackle whats going on like it used to be, instead of sitting behind the wheel of a cop car..

My house has been burgled and when I reported it the Police (The morning after) they came with in 1 hour and came back many times after. I think the Police do a fantastic job considering what is currently happening with redundancies and cuts to the force. Also I've been on a Police work experience week and we visited the control room and if any of you did you would find out that all 999 calls are responded to swiftly and effectively with serious crime given a 10 minute window in which to respond.
I only wish you people could get the opportunity which i had and you would see that the Police do a fantastic Job and have the publics interest always first. Even though the Police Officers which were looking after us on the week did raise the issue of how much time they are spending doing paper work instead of being on the 'beat'. Trust me they all want to be out there enforcing the law instead of being stuck inside but they have too.

Folks,
I am the Detective Inspector in the CID at Warrington and would like to thank the obvious support from the readers. I will also listen to the critism, assess whether it is justified and if there are improvements to be made I will ensure we will do what we can to improve. Unfortunately i may not be in a position to respond further due to current work commitments within the department over this weekend...... As you are aware a robbery occurred at the Nat West Bank in Stockton Heath on Friday afternoon. I have got a dedicated team of officers working around the clock trying to progress this investigation. Several female workers within the bank were confronted by masked men who threatened them with a sledge hammer before stealing cash and i am sure you will understand the victims are extremely shook up and upset following this unpleasant incident. Numerous persons have thankfully come forward and are being spoken to by my officers but i am sure there are others out there who had a good look at the offenders and may have even captured footage of the incident on their phones. I would appeal to those persons to please contact the Police on phone 101 and i will endeavour to arrange for a detective officer to speak with you asap as we are determined to catch these offenders. It would be inappropriate for me to respond in detail to many of the responses i have read whilst looking for information on the robbers but i will say that your local police are working extremely hard in improving the service we provide whilst having to do so with far less financial support - which will be the same in other public and private organisations across the country and we will not be looking to make excuses or generate sympathy but aiming at making improvements. There will be occassions when we have to priorise the more serious offences but will try and respond effectively to all reasonable requests. I currently run a dedicated team of officers who target house burglars and do so extremely well and we are the envy of departments throughout the region and even country but there will be times when we make a mistake or could have improved something. When i was a young detective starting out on the Warrington burglary team in January 1995 we had over 350 burglaries that month and have progressed ever since. Last month there were approximately 40 offences - but 40 too many as far as i am concerned.... I am very proud of the work we have done over the years in targeting local and travelling burglars and protecting householders but i doubt that i have saved that many lives... Believe me - stopping and preventing people from driving too fast can be a little frustrating at times but it saves lives !!
Thanks and please continue to assist us if you can...

There was a lad acting suspicously in my neighbourhood, the police were called and within 5 minutes were driving around looking for him. There was an armed robbery at my local shop, someone I knew had a small piece of info but the detective on the case immediately rang them back to ask to speak to them face to face and show him what they saw. However small the info, it actually led to a conviction as he spotted something that the PO's hadnt due to them not knowing all details. I personally can't fault the police and urge anyone with any information on this to go to the police. Who knows, they may strike again and a member of your family or a friend could be caught up in it.

I think it time people should start supporting the police rather than continuously criticising them. As most people will have seen, the police and other services are being cut back to the bare minimum, so there is less staff doing the same amount of work as before. As for attitudes, I have found the attitude of officers to be what I expect, even when I was in the wrong, those who feel the police have bad attitudes are properly the ones who themselves have a bad attitude to officers, who are just doing what the public expect them to do, uphold the law. As for those who do not like the police ’targeting’ the innocent motorist, maybe if people didn’t exceed the speed limit which is there for a reason, they wouldn’t need to and could get on with other work, I personally support the police in this area, if an officer using a speed gun saves just 1 life, that’s 1 life worth saving. I know some of you will disagree and say it’s all money making rather than safety, but how many of you can say you have been effected by an ‘innocent’ motorist speeding, how many of you will have had a family member- bother/sister, son/daughter, mum/dad or friend knocked over, injured or by a speeding motorist who thought it was ok to go above the limit? Ask the police officer who has been to that accident and had to pick up the pieces or ask the family who lost their loved one due to a mindless motorist and will never see that loved one grow up etc, if it happens to you I’m sure you will experience the service you all want from the police but for the wrong reason, you may also understand why speed enforcement is needed. To go back to the original reason for this thread, it’s not the police who are wrong it’s the scum who think they can commit a crime like this and get away with it, give the police a break, help them tackle crime no matter how petty. And so you know I am not an officer but someone who has experienced a service from the police that I could not fault.

Police attitudes towards the public need to change as well, That way we should all get along together and help each other. I,m glad someone got good service from the police but not everyone gets it. Maybe we expect too much from them, I dont expect too much just the same amount of politeness as I give to them. I dont speed, I dont rob, I dont wish to be spoken to like a criminal just because my number plate bulb went whilst I was driving. A bit of give and take from both sides will work wonders.

Well said. Attitudes towards the Police definitely need to be improved.
my opinion of the police is they see themselves above the law i know if for a fact. arrogant, and ignorant, change that and people will show some respect but not until then

all this police bashing and not one word about the ordeal the staff went through. The cashiers were left without any managers at the time of the robbery and were expected to be at work the following day without any counseling.Surely the bank has a duty of care towards its staff.
