Warrington misses out on Portas money
9:57am Saturday 26th May 2012 in News
WARRINGTON has missed out on Government money to help the town centre.
The town was one of dozens across the country to bid for the so-called 'Portas Pilot' cash to boost flagging town centres.
But it was not one of the 12 announced to win a share of £1.2million this morning.
The scheme is being headed by Mary Portas, the shopping guru.
A further 15 pilot areas will be announced later in the year.
Deputy leader Clr Mike Hannon said there was still much to loook forward to in town.
He added: “The work that we put into our Portas bid won’t go to waste as we had already pledged to deliver many of the planned improvements and quick wins for Warrington town centre.
"We’ve got a great team in Warrington who are committed to filling up empty shops, working together to put on new events and activities to entice more shoppers and visitors, and improving the environment to make our town a more pleasant place to be.”

By the time you take out planning and labour costs, there would be very little to show.
Its nothing but another Mary Portas publicity stunt!!
