THE Olympic flame will arrive in Warrington from Widnes via Liverpool Road close to 1pm and start its journey from Sankey Street.

It will then travel past the Town Hall where hundreds of primary school children will take part in an all-day mini-Olympics at Bank Park.

It will then be carried up to Market Gate where the 70-strong Warrington Male Voice Choir will be performing, turn down Horsemarket Street and onto Winwick Street.

The torch will then call into Tesco Extra car park for a 15 minute Coca Cola sponsored stop.

From there it will be carried up Winwick Road, along Jubilee Way and into the newly opened Orford Park around 2pm where it will be met by a large-scale music and dance performance by hundreds of children and young people from dozens of schools across the borough.

Some 13 runners will cover 0.2miles each on the day.

The torch then moves onto a private event at BT in Gemini before leaving to Wigan via Lowton.

Council road chiefs say the current plan is to close three roads ahead of the convoy arriving in Warrington – Sankey Street, Winwick Street (near the Lord Rodney pub) and Jubilee Way.

Diversions will be in place for road users and bus services.

A spokesman said: “Road users and commuters should therefore allow a little extra time when making journeys from late-morning to mid-afternoon on this day.”
