STAFF from Spire Cheshire Hospital are preparing to brave the elements in memory of a much-loved former colleague.
Sixteen members of the administration and out-patient nursing team will be climbing Snowdon this weekend to raise money for St Rocco’s after the hospice supported and cared for Chris Gribben.
The 53-year-old, from Grappenhall, lost her battle with cancer in December and was described by staff as a ‘dear friend and work colleague’.
Tina Melia, reception team leader, said: “The team has been busy getting sponsorship from family, friends and work colleagues and everyone is determined to reach the summit together so they can raise money for such a good cause.”
The group has been training hard in preparation for the sponsored climb up the highest mountain in Wales and the largest peak in the British Isles outside Scotland, before setting off on Saturday.
Consultant urologist at the Stretton hospial Lee Robinson will be joining the team during the trek and has devised a training programme for staff to follow.
Receptionist Jane Noel said: “We were all really close to Chris and she has left a massive hole.
“She never moaned and it was quite unbelievable how strong she was.
“None of us have done anything like this before and some of the girls have been meeting up for walks after work to get some training in.
“There are a few who are a bit worried they won’t be able to do it but overall everyone is excited and we just hope we can raise as much money as possible.”
