THE people of Warrington are being urged to support the Queen’s visit to the town next week.

She will visit Orford Park on Thursday, May 17 to officially open the newly named Orford Jubilee Park.

Clr Terry O’Neill, leader of Warrington Borough Council, said: “The excitement is really building ahead of the Royal visit later this month and we hope as many people as possible come out to give her a warm Warrington welcome.

“It’s going to be a really special day that local people will remember for years to come."

On the day hundreds of children and young people from nearby schools will be providing old-time dance and sport displays and while a 1950s style street party will take place outside the new community cabin on site.

Crowds will be entertained by a series of choirs and musical performances around the park while some Marines will abseil off the roof of the hub building.

The Queen will tour the newly completed £30 million hub building, taking in the new café, library and learning spaces before officially opening it to the public.

The Duke of Edinburgh will then help school children bury a time capsule at the site.

From the following day, Friday, May 18 Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub will be open for business.

Some of us have jobs to go to ! How easy it is for the council to "urge people to", or "call on the the public to" when more and more they seem to be completely isolated from reality.

What is the cost (in total or per hour ) of this elderly couple's flying visit?

It has been said that the royal family are out of touch however they actually have a lot in common with many of the lower orders

Years, or even generations without a proper job

Live on big estates

Many of the kids grow up without both birth parents around

Chavs wear tracksuits without exercising - royals wear uniforms for branches of the armed forces they haven't actually served in.

Moleogod - from reading your comment, and then looking at Nick Tessla's comment, I'd say that's the reason why the Royals are going to Orford - to feel at home! LOL

The town centre looks drab, just a bit of plastic bunting put up. Only five shops in the Mall with any decoration. No doubt the councillors will be out in force. More people would be able to see Her Majesty if she came into town.
