CLR Paul Kennedy has taken over as leader of the Conservatives at Warrington Borough Council.

He was put forward at a group meeting on Saturday morning.

He takes over from Clr Keith Bland who lost in Culcheth to Labour's Chris Vobe.

Clr Kennedy, who won in Hatton, Stretton and Walton, said he was looking forward to the challenge ahead.

He added: "The voters can expect continued hard work from the Conservatives.

"We are a small group but we will be working very hard for our constituents.

"And we will be making a big impact on committees.

"We will work with the Labour and won't be making cheap political points.

"Where they put good proposals we will support them, where we think they are wrong, we will make constructive comments."

Clr Les Hoyle will continue as deputy leader.
