Two men jailed for Orford kidnap

TWO men have been sentenced to 20 months behind bars after kidnapping a man in Orford over a £100 drugs debt.

Jonathan Beddard, 21, of Hornby Lane, Winwick, and Andrew Stelfox, 30, of Greenings Court, both pleaded guilty to one charge of kidnap and one charge of false imprisonment at Warrington Crown Court.

They were arrested on April 3 after they were spotted assaulting an 18-year-old man before bundling him into the back of a van.

A woman reported seeing the three men arguing before the victim was assaulted in an alleyway near to Orford Library.

The witness took down the registration number and reported the incident to police.

The victim also dialled 999 while he was in the back of the van and sustained bruising to his throat and left cheekbone after escaping.

Police patrols later spotted the vehicle and arrested both defendants.

DC Tom Hall, of Warrington CID, said: "We would like to thank the woman who came forward and reported the incident.

“Due to her actions and writing down the registration number, we were able to trace the van and arrested the defendants.”
