Officer charged after drugs arrest

A FORMER Warrington police officer has been charged following his arrest for drug offences.

DC John Griffiths, known as Sam, was charged on Wednesday with possession of class A drugs and two counts of misconduct in public office.

He will appear at Salford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, June 6.

The 30-year-old was a Cheshire Police officer at Arpley police station before being arrested in Manchester city centre on January 18.

Griffiths was suspended and resigned from the constabulary.

PC Mike Burton was also arrested in January on suspicion of dealing cocaine and resigned from Cheshire Police.

The 33-year-old was released earlier this month without charge after the crown prosecution service said there was not enough evidence to pursue the case.
