Sainsbury’s raises millions for Sport Relief

STAFF at Sainsbury’s in Culcheth volunteered to take pledges for Sports Relief’s TV fundraising appeal.

They teamed up with 182 colleagues across the regions to receive donations at a call centre, answering 1,652 calls with callers donating £51,411.

The team raised more than £900 themselves by selling cakes, fancy dress, sweepstakes, Easter egg challenges and sporting events.

The company announced that it had raised more than £4 million this year towards the total of £44 million.

Local charities including Women for Well Women in Culcheth will benefit.

Rebecca Ault, from Sainsbury’s, said: “It was a fantastic experience for our colleagues to be part of such an historic night.

“We were overwhelmed by the number of calls we received and we’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who called and made a donation.”
