NATURE lovers should think mink when out exploring Sankey Valley Park.

That is because one of the furry creatures was spotted along the canal side between the railway arches and Bewsey Old Hall.

Chris Thomason, of Belmont Crescent, Great Sankey, took this picture of the mink on March 31.

He said: “The mink was running along the canal in the area between the railway arches and Bewsey Old Hall and was seen by many anglers and walkers. I was lucky it decided to swim across right in front of me.”

In case anyone is in any doubt - the presence of mink is BAD news - they are an alien predator that can reek havoc.

They certainly breed last year down at the bottom end of Woolston Park. Almost every day I used to see four youngsters following their mother along the embankment right in front of my office window. I know they’re ruthless killers that’ll decimate the local wildlife so I reported it at the time but never heard anything back.
