WARRINGTON Wolves' historic first win at Perpignan's Stade Gilbert Brutus came in the summer of 2011.

And it was a record breaker for other reasons, too.

The win was Wolves' eighth on the trot in Super League - a feat they had not achieved since the start of the summer era in 1996.

Wolves' 20th win of the season also equalled their season's best tally.

It was telling that coach Tony Smith said that his understrength side had passed a ‘character test’ following the outstanding 25-12 victory.

There were fears that the blazing heat, travelling and past disappointments would impact on Wolves as they searched for their first win in France since 2006.

But the manner of the performance – and Wolves’ ability to fight back from a half-time deficit against a full-strength Catalan side in extremely testing conditions – spoke volumes for their mindset before going on to finish top of the table for the first time in the Super League era.
