CULTURAL events with a Samoan influence will be staged in Warrington leading up to Rugby League World Cup 2013.
We asked Warrington Wolves international David Solomona to tell us about the Samoan people and their way of life.
He said: “In my family, I’m a first generation New Zealand-born Samoan.
“My grandparents and dad were born in Samoa, and although my mum was born in New Zealand she lived in Samoa from the age of three months to 10.
“Although I grew up in New Zealand, I was brought up as a Samoan because I went to a Samoan church and the school I went to was made up of 60 per cent Samoan children.
“Generally in Samoa, people are still living in houses made of plants and trees.
“People are still living in houses with no walls and no electricity.
“It’s a throwback to days gone by and the culture is ingrained in who they are.
“Samoa has its own language, its own way of dancing. Samoans have their own food and they tend to have their own humour. You can tell their laughs – they’re big and loud.
“They’re quite happy people and when there’s a few of them over here you’ll know who they are.”
