TWO brothers staged a charity match with a difference on Saturday to raise money in memory of their dad.

Jack and Tom Owen, aged 14 and 12 respectively, staged the ‘lads v dads’ match at Monks Sports in Woolston on Saturday.

It was held a year to the day after their dad Paul died from a heart attack.

A huge football fan, Paul was a coach of the Rope and Anchor team who Jack plays for.

So with the anniversary approaching, the brothers decided to organise a game between the under 15s and a collection of Paul’s friends.

Jack said: “It was a really good day. Football was one of dad’s favourite things so it seemed like the best idea for a memorial.”

More than £140 was collected on the day for The British Heart Foundation.

The Warrington Guardian sponsored a trophy for the winners - the dads winning 6-1 with Tom scoring a hattrick and Jack grabbing the only goal for the under 15s.

“They definitely did not go easy on us”, Jack joked.
