Sixty-year-old man left with head injuries after morning attack

A 60-YEAR-OLD man is in hospital with head injuries after being attacked in Orford this morning.

The victim was walking to work at 6.30am on South Avenue when a car drove past him.

It stopped and a man got out and walked down West Avenue before the car continued to Hale Street.

As the victim got to the junction with West Avenue he heard footsteps behind him.

The man who had left the car was running towards him and then hit him around the head with an unknown object.

He then got back in the car which drove off towards Orford Lane.

The victim suffered two cuts to his head and is being kept in at Warrington Hospital.

DC Tracey Short said: "This was a serious assault on a member of the public. The victim lost a substantial amount of blood as a result of the attack.”

The attacker is described as a white man, around 6ft tall and wore dark clothing.

Police said there was no description of the vehicle.

Anyone with any information can call police on 101.

If all is innocent then get well soon. However I'm speculating there is more to this story than meets the eye.

chip & chunky if you have nothing good to say it is better to say nothing, I know this man personally and he is above any blame that you are attatching to him in that he is an innocent victim in this attack.
You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Hope the man has a speedy recovery. I live in orford and I am proud of it, I have brought my children up in a loving home and have taught them how to treat people with respect. I find it quite sad that people think that people who live in orford are nothing but a bunch of lowlifes or inbreds! Cheapmower dont tar us all with the same brush.

I'm ashamed of nothing regarding my previous comment. I said I was speculating.

It's not impossible this was a random attack but based on the facts given it seems unlikely. I'm also not saying he deserved a beating.

It's simply not logical for this assault to have taken place at the given time without the attacker(s) having a reason of any quantity.

Think you need to live in the real world and realise that people do get attacked for nothing by mindless thugs.

As for others opinion of orford i think your need to also understand that there are scum everywhere even in the most upper class parts of the town. You really need to think before making comments like that as there are a lot of decent people who live in orford.

@Chumhill, I also read this story and thought what has this guy done to be targeted like that, it was a hit, it was planned, the attack for whatever reason was not an unprovoked spontaneous attack.
I agree with Chip

Regarding the comments about Orford, yes there are decent ppl that live there, there are decent and non-decent ppl everywhere, but there is and always has been a higher concentration of the non decent in orford, longford, dallam, bewsey, basically that side of town. It has always been this way. Look at the house prices/style/crime rates/ its impossible to deny, and I was an orforder for 5 years, now I am moving out of warrington all together because of the non-decents from these places have infected the whole town with their vile dialect and attitudes.

Oh come on now... Random, pointless acts of violence are now a daily occurrence this piece of **** dump of a town, why are a few trying to make more of it than it is?? I find it amazing that some people can speculate on the motives without actually having any facts to hand.

I wont be apologising for my comment neither!! Just think about it, why would anyone get out of a car, walk, smack someone then get back in further up the road?? Its not your regular occurrence of random acts of violence, there seems to be no motive, there was no mugging or demands for anything, it doesn’t stack up!!

Mickym just because you ‘know’ someone doesn’t mean you know all of their business, there in and outs of complexes lives and relationships with others, hence why I am not ‘ashamed’ for my comments and speculation, if anything you should be ashamed for being nothing but ignorant to facts that are out there and evidence instead of thinking your in a corrie plot line!!

And on the Orford debate, I recently moved from what would be regarded as a ‘nice part’ of Warrington to orford last year and I can assure you it was a great move! My life is much quieter and nicer living where I do now!!

This is quite unbelievable..

You've convinced yourself that there is more to this than meets the eye without any evidence whatsoever, yet when confronted by someone who claims to know the victim and claims they are blameless you totally dismiss them out of hand by claiming they can't know all their business, when you know nothing at all..

You must live in a fantasy land. Read back through the stories we've had in recent months... There have been so many stories of men getting their jaws smashed open on the way home from a night out by apparent strangers, yet here you are claiming that this one particular attack has some ulterior motive..

Give your head a shake.

I rest my case. Unless you can substantiate these claims with "firm evidence".

Hence my speculation, duh!

Basically your opinion (and everyone else) is also speculation.

There is no firm evidence in the story to suggest this attack was random or not. I was simply speculating based on logic, regardless of how your logic or reasoning differs based on the written word in the article.

its a shame what has happened i hope you feel better soon and i think that certain people should stop playing miss marple and keep their opinions to themselves theres no need for anyone to speculate just a simple message wishing the victim well is good enough

You seem to have, yet again, misunderstood what i am saying sickandtired2! im well aware of the many 'random acts of violence' that have happened over the last year, no doubt you will see i have commented on them as you have too, the point i am making is ln most cases its been a group or an individual in an area, walking past, in a pub, or in the same area when the incident has happened, in this case its reported that “a man got out and walked down West Avenue before the car continued to Hale Street” so it seems he was followed for a bit before he was assaulted! I was merely pointing out this doesn’t sit at the same as the rest of the usual ‘random acts of violence’ that occur in our area. It was obviously pre planned hence the getting out the car, hitting him then getting back into the car further up, look at it for what it was, it was targeted, that’s not a ‘random act of violence’ from its very meaning, he was followed!

If anyone needs a shake its your blinkered viewing of situation!!

I have no ‘convinced myself’ of anything, merely pointing out this doesn’t sit right, like the rest of you who have assumed it does fit the usual bill!! I suggest you get over yourself instead of the usual ‘I know best and you will all agree’ attitude you usual throw round here!!!

i know there are alot of decent folk in orford but unfortunately for them there are a great deal of not so decent ones too, and i can't help thinking that the police have some controll over the coucil housing there, keeping all the junkies, thugs, burglars, benefit cheats and general scum of the earth there so they can keep an eye on them and know where to look when they re-offend.
