WARRINGTON Hospital spends almost £10 a day on food and drink for patients – new figures have revealed.

The statistics, compiled by the NHS Information Centre, show the bosses at Warrington are spending £10.31 a day on meals.

Among those spending the least nationwide were Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust (£2.57), Harrow Primary Care Trust (PCT £2.75), North Somerset PCT (£2.76), North West London Hospital NHS Trust (£3.13) and Herefordshire PCT (£3.66).

Wiltshire PCT led the way in spending the most (£22.31) followed by Kirklees PCT (£19.81), University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (£17.46) and Cumbria Teaching PCT (£17.85).

The figures were disclosed following a report by the independent Future Forum which warned NHS nurses were lacking in compassion and basic skills.

"Need to be asking Western Sussex what they are doing for it to be so low a figure."....quite simply not feeding their patients properly hence why their recover rates are lower! Western Sussex was part of an investigation about their appalling food their external services delivered! Despite all the mounds of evidence that show health nutritious food post medical intervention massively increases recover rates and shortens the time more interventions are needed hence a decent cost saving!

So in the long run their saving of a few pound per head on food actually costs them more in retreatment and longer recover times!
