MORE than a third of shoppers who had free stroke awareness check-ups last month found they had blood pressure readings that could be a cause for concern.
The free checks, as part of World Stroke Day, found of the 302 shoppers who had a check on the day, 112 had raised blood pressure, 40 people were advised to make an appointment with their GP within a week and 72 were told to visit their doctor within a month.
Twelve doctors from Warrington Hospital joined the Stroke Association staff through the day to carry out the checks at Golden Square.
Jane Guy, information, advice and support co-ordinator for The Stroke Association in Warrington, said: “We want to urge everyone to take five minutes to know their blood pressure because it could save lives.”
Warrington Hospital’s stroke service is in the top 25 per cent in the UK and provides emergency and rehabilitation care.
