GRAHAM Sayer has revealed that being named Warrington Sports Personality of 2005 is the greatest achievement of his career so far.
The 25-year-old kickboxer leapt from his seat and punched the air when it was revealed that he had fended off competition from nine other candidates to win the town's most prestigious sporting award.
And a beaming Sayer, who became the European, Commonwealth and British Amateur Kickboxing Association middleweight champion and defended the English title on four occasions in 2005, was understandably proud to receive the honour.
"To be recognised as the best in Warrington is better than what I've achieved so far," he said.
"I wasn't expecting to win because of the level of the other candidates, so it was absolute shock and awe when my name was read out.
"Last year was absolutely brilliant - the best year I could ask for - and I hope this year can be even better."
