Labour fury over school closure plan

THE Labour party in Warrington has criticised plans to extend the consultation period of a review of two secondary schools saying it leaves a cloud over their future.

Members of Warrington Borough Council's executive board have been asked to approve proposals which would see a further year of discussion over the future of Padgate and Woolston High Schools.

Both have been considered for closure as part of plans to transform secondary school education in Warrington. But education chiefs say they want to consider all options before coming up with a new set of proposals for the area.

Instead, councillors are expected to opt for a complete rebuild of Culcheth High School now before dealing with the education system in Padgate and Woolston at a later date.

Clr Maureen Banner, Labour's education spokesman, said: "I am deeply concerned for pupils, parents and staff because the report leaves the future of Padgate High School and Woolston High School uncertain.

"A further period of consultation into late next year will inevitably leave a cloud over the future for these two schools as well as causing anxiety and stress for pupils, parents and staff alike."

I agree.
The schools should be left alone and Labour's blood money returned unless it can be used to maintain and enhance the existing schools.
Labour government started all this nonsense with a stupid offer to finance new building. if they have the money for such an offer, then the money should be used to the best needs of the town - ie as above.
What a lot of stupid political claptrap. Where is the common sense?
