RUNNING the extra mile for charity has never been more gratefully received.
Warrington based charity Home-Start benefited to the tune of £10,000 from a group of runners who competed in the English Half Marathon in south Warrington earlier this month.
And according to Rob Griffiths, from the charity, events such as the half marathon are vital not only in raising money, but in generating publicity and raising the profile or organisations such as his.
He said: “It is very important for us as a charity.
“We are a charity operating in Warrington 11 years now so it is great that we get the chance to have runners going round with the T-shirts and logos on them, it really does raise our profile.”
The charity helps children and families across the town by sending volunteers to parents who may need an extra hand or someone to talk to.
Around 50 volunteers currently work for the charity and according to Rob the £10,000 from the charity run will go a long way to meeting the annual £100,000 turnover costs.
One of the main contributors was Knutsford Road-based company Groundlevel.
The company, which employs 80 people from the area, chose to support Home-Start, which provides services for schools and other buildings across the borough, and took to the streets to help them out.
Lewis Nunn, managing director, said: “It was a great event for Groundlevel to get involved with and we are looking to build on that success in 2011.”
