A FLOCK of doves are causing traffic chaos in Callands.
The domesticated, fantailed birds were left in a dovecote at the Hoop and Mallet pub after the former landlord left.
They are free to roam and frequently wander on to Callands Road, not even bothering when traffic approaches.
One resident told Burtonwood and Westbrook Parish Council last Wednesday: “Each time I drive down the road I have to brake because the doves are in the road. They are domestic birds and don’t fly away quickly.
“I’m concerned that before long there will be a road accident.
“People throw food for them so they are multiplying and attracting vermin.”
Clr David Earl confirmed the council would address the issues raised and said: “Generally speaking it’s nice to have the birds but they are creating a traffic problem.”
“Vermin could be an issue if people are spreading food as there is a school and nursing home nearby. Now that someone has complained we will need to visit the new landlord.”
Councillors said if the doves continue to cause problems they could be taken in by the RSPB.
