SO, the poll tax still rumbles on, no doubt for years to come and in many ways this tax was unbearably unfair.
My daughter left this country to work abroad for nine months. The minute she returned, through the letter box came a bill demanding the full amount.
As everyone knows, poll tax, rates, community charge, mostly goes to the facilities that we use in and around the town. For nine months, my daughter wasn't here to use them but nonetheless was expected to pay the full amount.
She managed, somehow, to pay this most unfair bill.
I think everyone would agree how unfair the system of the poll tax was. Implemented in the right way it would have worked but, like everything else, the system worked for the authorities, not us.
