Warrington Town 0

TOWN'S prospects of escaping relegation remained alive after completing their away programme at fellow strugglers Workington on Monday.

Their destiny now lies in five games left to play, including a return encounter with the Cumbrians.

The hard fought draw at Workington further extended their notable run, which has seen them beaten only once in their last 12 matches.

Midfield general Ray Birch posed the greatest threat at Workington. He was twice foiled by keeper Lee Copeland before the break.

Although troubled at the back on occasions Graham Bennett was never seriously tested in goal.

Manager Simon Rudge's newly rebuilt defence has now conceded only seven in 11 outings.

Warrington's next game is home to Great Harwood on Tuesday.

Warrington: Bennett 6, Wilson 5, Anderton 6, Owen 5, Sutcliffe 5, Birch 7, Nestor 5, Smith 5, Thornley 5, Clay 5 (Saunders: 88 mins); Glass 5. Subs not used: Rudge, Johnson.

TERRY Nestor gave Warrington an early lead on Saturday against a side unbeaten in their last 11 games.

But Town failed to further profit from the attacking stranglehold they had before the interval, with Ray Birch and Paul Anderton, in particular, firing narrowly over.

Warrington's command declined rapidly during the second half and Kenny Clark denied them two precious points, firing home a 66th minute equaliser.

Striker Craig Murphy, appeared in his first game after re-signing for the club, before this week moving to Congleton, who are now managed by former Warrington manager Tommy Lawson.

Warrington: Bennett 6, Wilson 6, Anderton 6, Owen 6, Coulson 6, Birch 6, Nestor 6, Cook 6, Thornley 5 (Saunders: 89 mins); Clay 5 (Sutcliffe: 80); Murphy 5. Sub not used: Glass.
