BEECHES won the final of the Warrington Sunday Soccer League Premier Cup for the first time in their history.

Darren Young scored from close range to give Beeches a 1-0 half-time lead.

It was well into the second half before Mike Simmons increased it with an angled drive. Tetley Walker then had their best spell of the game resulting in Lee Ellis reducing the arrears but, despite late pressure by Walkers, Beeches held on to a well deserved 2-1 victory.

On Sunday, in a reduced progamme, there was a big disappointment for Premier Division leaders Whiston Carrs who travelled to Butchers Arms and suffered a 2-1 loss. Steve Rice and Paul Wainwright were the marksmen for Butchers.

In Division One, Rangers Wargrave had a 3-2 win at Kembledean. Simon Saunders netted twice and there was a goal for Andy Swift.

Penny Black, an inform team, beat Stoops 2-1 with goals by Ian Hayes and Peter McConnell.

In Division Three, Howley Hotel, chasing the runners-up spot, beat Ballater 4-1. Tony Taylor netted twice and there was a goal each for Wayne Aspinall and Jason Hope.

Leaders in Division Four, Seven Woods, had to rely on a lone strike by Ian Murray to give them the points over a determined Daresbury team.

Latchford Railway thumped Callands 6-0 with two goals each for Tony Wilde and Phil Snyder and one apiece for Jamie Wayleigh and Paul Melvin.

Despite two goals by Steve Nestor, Causeway went down 3-2 at home to Tully Park Rangers.

In Division Five, there was an exciting 12-goal match between George and Dragon and Stocks.

The visitors were 4-1 up at half-time. The George pulled it back to 4-3 then Stocks increased their lead to 7-3 before two late goals made it 7-5 to Stocks.

For Stocks, James Forshaw and Russell Carr hit doubles. Paul Roberts, Ian Rollinson and Simon Pickett scored one each. For the George, Danny Chadwick and Dave Pym hit two, Neil Cooke made it five.

Red Lion came out on top 4-3 at Grappenhall Youth. There were two goals for Rob Gleave and one each for John Abbott and Eric Hughes.
