South Liverpool 11
Warrington 8
WITH the chance of promotion now gone, there was little at stake for Warrington in this re-arranged league game.
As a result, they were beaten by a side still battling to escape the threat of relegation.
In four attempts Warrington have never won at their opponents' ground. They came close on this occasion but some poor finishing and tactical mix-ups cost them dearly as the home side kicked the winning goal with two minutes remaining.
Warrington raced to an 8-0 lead courtesy of some good handling in the backs which saw Neil Jackson cross out wide and Geoff Senogles kicking a penalty goal.
However, some severe lapses in concentration and a string of penalties saw Liverpool draw level by the interval.
Senogles hit the post with an attempted penalty and Warrington never threatened the home line again.
They have four league fixtures left, starting with another 'derby' at Newton tomorrow, Saturday.
