AN emotional Greenall Tetley Dominoes League finals day at Bank Quay Club on Sunday was a fitting tribute to Harold Powis, a Bank Quay stalwart who had died on Wednesday after playing bowls for the club at Bulls Head.

The 61-year-old was due to have played in the last 16 of the Carlsberg competition with John Ditchfield, but his place was taken by Bea McGann.

In true fairytale fashion they duly survived a harrowing passage and won the trophy by beating Tom and Gary Beechall of the Mulberry Tree 3-0 in the final.

Touchers need only one more point to ensure they are Division Two champions after they won a hard game at Rylands B. Culleton and Newton sealed the points on the interval.

They are six points clear of London Bridge who won at home to Warrington Cons with Finn and Mather their last leg heroes.

At the other end of the table, Eagle lost at Bulls Head which puts Eagle favourites for the drop along with Mulberry Tree.

The winners now have a two point lead over Eagle with three games left to play. Deaf Social, who drew with Bulls Head B, now tally 25 points and Marquis B had their third win in a row to reach 24 points. Neither are out of the danger zone.

In Division Four, Red Lion Stockton Heath beat their nearest rivals Brickmakers and have 44 points, which is seven clear of Brickmakers.

In Division One, Monk Sports lost a last legger to Rylands A and Hawthorne won in the same manner. Howley A drew at Richmonds and are one point behind the other two teams.

There is a delegates' meeting on Wednesday at Warrington Cons Club, 8.15pm, and all clubs must be represented at this rules revision meeting. Summer League fixture cards will be distributed.
