They won't be the first foreign visitors to Albion's home, Manchester City played Finnish opposition in a behind-closed doors friendly last season.

But manager Kevin Tully is looking forward to what is likely to be a prestigious occasion: "They are very good opposition. They will play a pass and move game, as will we. It will be a good experience for the players and as long as we pick up the runners we should give a good account of ourselves."

The match was a result of the friendship between Witton's Director of Football, John Bond, and his friend, ex Wolves star and football agent, Mel Eves.

The three times Greek National Champions will be in England for two weeks and also take on Division Two Macclesfield on July 27.

Salonica won their domestic cup in 1970 and have qualified for the UEFA cup 10 times. Former Manchester United manager Wilf McGuiness coached them between 1971 and 1973 and will be at Wincham Park on Thursday as a guest of Kevin Tully's.

Wilf said: "I have some very fond memories of my time in Greece. I haven't seen them play since 1974. Greek football has improved a great deal and their players are very skilful, so Witton will have their work cut out."

For this game only, admission will be £4 for adults, £2.50 for OAPS and £1 for Under 16s.

Albion will have two new men available for the high-profile encouncter, although one will be more than familiar to home fans.

Kevin Langley and 21-year-old Mike Scully have completed their move to Witton from League of Wales club Flint Town. It is the third time Langley has signed for Albion - where, unusually these days, he will not be oldest player on show.

The 34-year-old is 12 months younger than recent acquisition Eddie Bishop.
