GREEN-FINGERED Lester Crisford has followed in his father's footsteps 40 years on after scooping a top title in Alsager.

Mr Crisford, of Talke Road, was voted the winner of the Best Front Garden section of the Alsager Gardens Competition this year.

In the 1950s his father, Ralph, won the title seven consecutive times including 1953 when he created a Union Jack flag out of bedding plants.

Mr Crisford impressed the judges with his manicured lawn and beautiful roses and plants in his first time entering the competition.

He cuts the lawn every four days and spends most days out in his garden or in his greenhouse where he grew many of the plants now on show from seed.

The presentation of his award, along with the winners of other categories, will take place at the Alsager Gardens Association 47th annual flower and vegetable show on September 4 in the Civic Centre.
